History Of SMK Pending

SMK Pending was born in 1974,borrowing the premises of SRK Lumba Kuda, next to the present MBKS HQ. Its first principal was En.Abdul Rahman Bin Sahari.

The following year, 1975, it moved to SRK Chung Hua, Bintawa. Now a bording school. It had only 15 teachers (among them YB Peter Nansian) and a clerk. En Sulaiman Aban became its second principal.

1976 came the big wait when a permanent home was completed along Jalan Tun Razak near Kampung Sungai Apong. Oending is named after an Iban word, ‘Pending’ meaning ear. So Pending point and Pending Port became a ‘waiting place’ for ships and goods. En Sulaiman Aban adopted the motto ‘Jangan Bertangguh’ to ‘counter’ the idea of waiting or delaying.

When En Lawrence Chong took over in January, 1977, he stayed until the beginning of the 3rd term. En Lun Ah Lek came to take En.Chong’s place but stayed only for a few months.

In February 1978, En Gona Theodore Sargunam, from SMK Green Road, took over. He left in June 1981. The Tennis Court was built in 1979, the year SMK Pending became organizer of the 15th Inter Secondary School Athletic Meet.

En.Reggie Jerson took over in June 1981 and saw nearly six years of service here. After ten years, En Lawrence Chong came back in 1987 and spent another nine years in SMK Pending.

In 1996, Puan (now Datin) Fatimah Abdullah returned (in 1990/91 she was PK1) to lead school. The staffroom was moved ‘upstairs’ ; the 1st floor used to house the library, which has since been moved to block B.

In. 199x En Sukiman replaced Datin Hajjah Fatimah Abdullah. In 200x En Ahmad Hamdan came. After xx years, he was transferred to Sarekei. In 2005, En Joseph Ng became a principal of SMK Pending.
